Lovejoy’s "Good Grief!!" bereavement program brings hope to grieving children and their families. Bereavement programs for children provide age appropriate activities for six weeks, twice a year, at no charge to the children in the community. There are age-specific groups for children, and also one for adults or caregivers. This year, Lovejoy Hospice is developing a special bereavement program for adolescents. The "Children & Teens" program offers support for elementary school through high school aged children.
"Good Grief!! helped me and my children to find some better lines of communication and to deal with the loss we have experienced. Good Grief!! has opened doors for us and helped my children in many ways. This has been a very positive experience." ~ Wife and mother, Grants Pass, Oregon.
Children grieve in ways that are sometimes different from adults. In the Good Grief!! groups they are given an opportunity to express their feelings in art, music and play, to share memories of the loved one who has died, and to understand that other children experience grief in their family too. Parents have the opportunity to learn about children's grief and to share with each other their own grief journey.
